JBA Fisher House
Veterans should always know that their sacrifices will not be ignored and that their wounds – whether mental or physical – will be healed. For our military service men and women serving in harm’s way, it’s not enough to say thank you for your service. We owe them a debt of gratitude which is impossible to calculate and which we can never repay. Because military members and their families are stationed worldwide and must often travel great distances for specialized medical care, the Fisher House™ Foundation donates “comfort homes,” built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers. The homes are located within walking distance to the hospitals they serve and allow families to be close to a loved one at the most stressful times – during hospitalization for an unexpected illness, disease, or injury. There are 72 Fisher Houses located on military installations and VA medical centers around the nation and overseas and there is no charge for any family to stay. One such home is located at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland and serves military and veteran families who are receiving care in the Washington DC metro area. Since it was donated by founders Zachary and Elizabeth Fisher in 1994 this home has provided lodging for more than 6,200 military families.
